We say that we are trying to continue to grow and cultivate our dispersed network of millennials across New York City. We believe in this model because it keeps millennials where they have the most influence (jobs and social networks) so the gospel has the most potential for outward influence.
BUT, what does that mean and how do we do that? It means we need to be very mobile in going to our millennials and we need to have ways to gather them for discipleship and learning opportunities. This is why the Leadership Development Groups were created. It is a 9 session content series of what we as Cru believe every millennial Christian needs to learn, experience and apply to their lives in order to be released into flourishing in the city. They spend a year going through the curriculum with a group of 6-10 others, going in deeper in relationships and growing together. The topics of each session include identity in Christ, inner healing, sharing your faith, the Holy Spirit, and theology of vocation, just to name a few. Up until this Fall, we have only had 3 leaders leading the curriculum, but after a scaling initiative the material is now available online, and we have trained 10 others in New York City to be leading groups. We are hoping God uses this to bless the lives of millennials all over the city.
Sam is launching his first group on December 6 with a group of 6 guys on the Upper West Side (three of whom live on our street!). His second group will launch in January with a community of millennial guys in the Jamaica neighborhood of Queens. Sam met with Andy, from Queens, who reached out to Cru to ask if we could facilitate one of these groups at his church. He is gathering all the guys, and Sam is going out to facilitate. Andy is very excited about it because he feels like this material really speaks to the needs of the men in his community. Andy is hoping that God could use it in these guys lives to live for purpose in their jobs and personal lives.
