As the date to the fall getaway in the Hudson Valley was quickly approaching, some us of were starting to get nervous. Only 25 Millennials had signed up. Was it the new location? Maybe people aren't interested anymore? We began to pray. "Lord, bring those who YOU want to come. Remove any barrier so that people can draw closer to you this weekend." By the time Friday rolled around, 75 people had signed up, in true Millennial last minute fashion!
The weekend was full of great talks, worship, and fun activities like apple picking, swimming (it was strangely warm for being October!), and playing games. One big change from last year is that many of the participants came to the retreat alone but left with lots of new friends. Many of these young people had just arrived to the city a few weeks prior, and were eager to meet new friends and get plugged into Christian community. Sam gave the closing talk on Sunday morning, and using the story of King David inviting and giving an inheritance to the orphaned son of Saul from 2 Samuel 7, he challenged those present to live for the eternity of dining at the table of King Jesus and challenged them to be inviting others to the "table".
Since the retreat we have been busy following up with many of the attendees. Sam got coffee with one the guys who came and he immediately expressed interest in participating in an LD group. The next week he showed up to Sam's LD Group and shared how influential his time at the getaway was in his walk with the Lord. Kimberly got connected to a Chinese young women who also has a passion for Italy (strangely enough!). They had dinner a couple weeks ago with some of her Chinese non believing friends. Please pray for these Millennials to continue walking with the Lord in New York City and for them to be a light in their many spheres of influence.
