Our vision for our network of Millennials is that they would connect, thrive and serve in New York City. Every Christmas we host a party with the goal to connect millennials to serving opportunities in the city. To be honest, as we sat down to plan the event, I (Sam) had a lot of doubt on how it was all going to come together. We needed to find a cause and find a quality organization and I wasn’t sure there was enough time to do it well. But as we took steps of faith forward, God has provided for this to happen. Here are the steps to planning a Christmas for a Cause event.
Find an issue that could use some Christ-centered laborers unleashed to make a difference and make Jesus known. Ours this year is New York High School youth. This can happen through prayer or just by being present in the city to see its needs. I can remember the two issues that have most impacted me since moving to New York City is education and fatherlessness.
Find a quality organization(s) who are helping to make traction on the issue. We have two! Hall Pass Tour which is a group of New York City High School alumni who perform concerts for High School youth as a way to cast vision for a positive future. The other is Cru High School which is recruiting our millennials network to mentor in local high schools in their college readiness programs.
Connect millennials to that cause through these organizations to see more mobilized for Christ’s kingdom. Host a party and have a good time showing off what God is already doing and ways that we can bring our own support.
The date is set for December 12, and we are very excited. Please be in prayer as our end goal is to make Jesus known through serving the city toward the common good.
