Summer's scorching heat has arrived in the city, and so have many ministry opportunities as a family. With school being out, I (Kimberly) have had the chance to connect with so many moms while the kids play in the splash pad or on the playground at the park. One of the moms, Laura, and I got the kids together for a playdate last week. I didn't get to know her very well during the school year due to differing pickup times, so I found myself praying that the Lord would open up opportunities to connect and share the gospel with her. As the kids dug in the sand, she opened up a lot to me about losing twins to miscarriage and the grief that she still carries with her. I literally couldn't believe that we had so much in common with this particular type of loss. As we continued to chat, I shared about our miscarriage and how God had met me in my grief and how our church community had supported so much during this difficult time. it was such a powerful time of sharing life together and sharing about how faith plays such an integral part in my life. We already have plans to see each other again soon. Please pray that parts of our conversation would stick with her and that we would get a chance to talk about meaningful things again sometime soon.
Summer is also an amazing time to get away from the city for a bit of rest and relaxation. Our friends from Eloise's school invited us with them to their lake house in the Pocono Mountains. They are both professors at Columbia and have had negative experiences with Christians in the past. The weekend was incredible! We heard a lot about their past experiences with religion and learned more about their family backgrounds. In turn, we shared about our own and Sam had the opportunity to share his testimony. We left the mountains feeling so much closer with them and so thankful for the opportunities God gave us to share more about our faith. Please keep praying for this couple!
