Then he said to his disciples, “The harvest is plentiful but the workers are few. Ask the Lord of the harvest, therefore, to send out workers into his harvest field.” Matthew 9:37-38
A lot of times when you read a blog post title like “Sending Disciple of Mission”, you may assume we are talking about going on a mission trip somewhere or becoming a vocational missionary (which are both super important!). But, we are talking about sending disciples on mission in the workplace. Two weeks ago, Kenya, a disciple of mine (Sam) from Japan, invited me to his workplace to meet for a morning coffee. I headed to 30 Rockefeller Center, an iconic skyscraper, where most famously NBC films many of its shows, and headed up to the 50th floor. With a 360 degree view, I could see my house at 106th St to the north, and the top of the Freedom Tower at World Trade Center to the south. And yet, in this iconic tower, a symbol of man’s achievement, Kenya and I talked about God moving in his workplace. He shared with me what he was trusting God for, as he represented Jesus to his coworkers. How he was sharing Christ with his teammates, specifically through the lens of cultural learning as he works on a team with a culture different from his native Japan. It was a moment of thanking God for building up and sending out laborers for every harvest out there.
